Full of personality, spy photos of the new BMW X8 SUV exposed
Finally, we got spy photos of the new BMW X8, and we can learn something about this large luxury SUV.
This car will go on sale next year. Compared with the large-size X7, it has a more unique style and is benchmarked against the Mercedes-Benz GLS. Its release will expand the X-series SUV product lineup to 10 types, including all-electric iX3 and iX.
X8 is built on the basis of X7, and like BMW's other even-numbered SUVs (such as X4 and X6), it is also a coupe-style model. This car will mainly target the Chinese and American markets, not Europe.
It can be seen from the spy photos that the X8 is definitely more sporty than the X7, but the overall shape does not give the impression of a two-door coupe SUV too much.
The changes in appearance include a steeper sloping roof and an upward sloping body. The rear wheel arch lines are more obvious, and the bumper also has two large exhaust devices.
The vertical front end of the X8 will be equipped with the huge kidney-shaped grille of the X7, but there will be split LED headlights on both sides. This design will continue to be applied to other upcoming models, such as the 7 series sedan that will be launched next year.
We were unable to obtain photos of the interior, but it is speculated that it will be equipped with dual 12.3-inch displays, equipped with BMW's latest iDrive infotainment system.
In addition, because BMW did not make the X8 a real two-door sports car version of the SUV, its rear row can still accommodate the third row of seats, but it will be relatively compact.
BMW recently registered the "X8 M" trademark, which indicates that this series of SUVs will launch a performance version of the model, and we expect it to be equipped with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine.
In the X5 M, this engine can produce 616 horsepower in 3.8 seconds. This kind of power and performance is enough to make the X8 M compete with models such as the Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo.
X7 has not yet launched a plug-in hybrid version, but X8 is expected to launch a plug-in hybrid model, which will make it more competitive.
The power system of the plug-in hybrid model may come from the X5 xDrive45e plug-in system. It uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor. The integrated branch outputs 394 horsepower and has a pure electric battery life of 80. Kilometers, but due to the heavier body of the X8, this number may drop slightly.
